When you get to a sign with both "Bridleway" and "South Downs Way" on arrows pointing in different directions, take the path to your left, between the trees, rather than the one which continues alongside the river.
At the end of the path is a metal construction which makes a good seat for a food / drink stop. This picture looks out on to the road from this point. Go in the direction that the Ford KA is going in, for a few hundred yards.
