Brighton --> Lewes --> Brighton..

Funny warning on gate, with Kona Dawg mountain bike in foreground

This Saturday, did a 26 mile bike ride, consisting of the same route as the Brighton --> Lewes --> Brighton bike ride.

The reason for this specific ride, was that my riding buddy was finally back in the saddle after 6 weeks out due to a broken thumb. Due to this, we weren't sure what his fitness level would be like; this ride lends itself well to finishing at the mid-point, where we had the option of getting the train back home from Lewes if the fitness had deteriorated to much. Fortunately, everything was fine, and we've planned to do the Eastbourne to Brighton the weekend after this, in preparation for the London to Brighton.

So, not exactly a new route for the Gallery or Routes section, but above's a photo of something I found funny (text on the gate..).. no explanation needed; thought I'd combine it with the obligatory "bike against [random object]" shot..

In other news, whilst out on this ride, we saw several riders taking part in the South Downs Way in a day ride, also a British Heart Foundation event. This is the third year running I've been out on the Downs when this ride was on; every year I've said I'd be doing it next year, and then haven't. So I'm going to do my best to prepare for the ride so I can do it next year, even if it means missing out on the London to Brighton. Well done to all those peeps who took part - you didn't look the happiest bunch of riders I've seen, but I guess I wouldn't be either after 80 miles of off-roading in gale force winds.

Another Devils Dyke bike ride..

Devils' Dyke ride 14.5.06

Had a quick bike ride on Sunday, setting off at about 17:00. Actually planned to ride to the River Adur from Devils Dyke, and find an alternative way back to the Dyke via the trails / roads that go round the base of the hill on which the Dyke sits.

The weather wasn't looking too stable though, and I thought I was going to get soaked; so I only ended up riding as far as the Truleigh Hill Youth Hostel (or thereabouts) via the route taken on the Chanctonbury Ring / Cissbury Ring ride, before turning back. I used this as another opportunity to concentrate on my hill climbing, and managed all but the last hill on the way back, pedalling out of the saddle.

A very small gallery of this Truleigh Hill bike ride is here; I held off on taking lots of photos of the bike ride as there is already a gallery covering the route.

Now that the weather's improved quite a lot, the frequency of my bike rides will increase, so there'll be more photos added to the gallery soon; I'm also doing the London to Brighton bike ride when it happens in June, so will get plenty of photos from that too.

Speaking of which, to the

Quick Sunday ride..

Did some riding over the weekend, but nothing special; had to go in to work on Sunday to carry out a server upgrade so thought I'd take the Dawg. Went home for dinner, then went for another ride, going up Snakey Hill out of the saddle again, down Dyke Road and then along the seafront from Brighton back in to Hove.. so not really a route guide worthy ride. Some proper bike riding due at the weekend!!
